Chess Coaching Program Introduced for Children

Cancer treatment can be emotionally and mentally challenging for children and their caregivers. That’s why our Third Circle team focusses on providing emotional support to families staying at the centres. Through a variety of educational and interactive activities, the team promotes the overall well-being of children and their families, helping them find a sense of normalcy during their treatment journey.

Recently, the team introduced a Chess Coaching Program, offering children and parents a new way to learn and develop critical thinking skills. The sessions, conducted by ChessMates Academy, introduces the families to the game, explaining its benefits in improving focus, problem-solving, and strategic thinking. Encouraging children to take up chess not only offers a fun and intellectually stimulating activity but helps them build confidence and sportsmanship.

The Chess Pilot program officially launched on February 18, 2025, at our Kharghar Centres in Mumbai. The initiative was made possible thanks to the volunteers from the Teach Chess Movement led by ChessBase India academy who partenered with us.

The kick-off session introduced the academy’s favourite ‘ChessPa’ character. During the session, children received a chessboard, a demo chess board and “ChessPa” book by the team.

By integrating such engaging activities at the centres, St. Judes continues to create a nurturing environment for children and families.
